Fiesta Bowl is the American College Football bowl played annually in Arizona. It is one of the oldest College football bowls that are played annually. The Bowl is played at State Farm in the heart of Glendale, Arizona. This will be the 52nd edition of the Fiesta Bowl, and the match will be played between Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football and Oklahoma State Cowboys Football. It will be the first encounter between these two teams. The most prominent fixture in Arizona is staged on 1st January at 1:00 pm E.T. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.

History

The Fiesta Bowl is the most anticipated event in Arizona apart from National day and Christmas. It is one of the few bowls with a corporate sponsor like Playstation. It came into existence in the 1970s due to attempts by Arizona state to secure any bowl invitations. The event is also known for its charitable history. It has donated more than 12 million$ in terms of Charity till now and exclusively donated more than 1 million in emergency relief for the Covid-19 pandemic.

Venue & Teams

 The state Farm stadium is the venue that has the long history of hosting the forum since 2007. The stadium has previously hosted many high-profile events like Super Bowl XLII which was arranged back in 2008, the Pro Bowl, along with exciting Super Bowl edition XLIX that was celebrated in 2015, Well, now the stadium will again host the biggest bowl event for the third time in 2023. 

 For soccer, it was one of the stadiums for the CONCACAF Gold Cup which was arranged in 2015 . Moreover, it is also the venue of the  first semi-final ofCONCACAF Gold Cup back in 2019. It is the home of the Arizona Cardinal from the NFL. Notre Dame of the independent conference and Oklahoma Cowboys from the Big 12 conference will compete for the trophy in this year’s edition. 

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team, which competes in the independent conference of the NCAA, is best known for its defensively intense gameplay. It represents the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana. They play their games in Notre Dame Stadium which has a capacity of 77,000+ spectators. Notre Dame will be with a new coach on the bench as Marcus Freeman will take charge of the head coach, replacing Brian Kelly. 

Freeman is promoted from his duty of defensive coordinator, and it will be his first match as a coach of Notre Dame. It is predicted that all the key players of Notre Dame will be available for the Bowl, including Quarter Back Jack Coan, Running Backs Kyren Williams, Chris Tyree, Wide Receiver Avery Davis, and Tight-End George Takacs. The star safety Kyle Hamilton could miss the Bowl due to a knee injury. Notre Dame is truly strong in defense, but the real deal stops the Oklahoma Quarterback Spencer Sanders.

 The Fighting Irish finish the year with seven straight wins due to the offensive changes made in the gameplay. Notre Dame scores 10 points from November to October, showing good form before the Fiesta Bowl. Notre Dame must come to Arizona with a huge motivation to win the Bowl.

Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Oklahoma State Cowboys represent Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They have previously won many accolades; the most recent is the Cheez-it Bowl in Miami. They play their home matches at Boone Pickens stadium. Oklahoma head coach is none other than Mike Gundy, who is on the bench for the 17th straight season. 

Oklahoma might lack some motivation as they lose to Baylor in the final seconds and miss the opportunity to qualify for the play-offs of the Big 12 conference. The team is offensively and defensively well balanced. The Cowboys are also dealing with players’ injuries, including the star Running back Jaylen Warren, who got injured last Saturday, but Mike Gundy is hopeful that he will make it to the Fiesta Bowl. The Cowboys are as good a defense as they are ranked third nationally in total defense. The star Quarterback is in the starting lineup to face Notre Dame as he can pierce opponents’ defense. 

The running back finished with 31 yards and is also expected to start. The Oklahoma State offense was a beast down the stretch as they averaged 36.3 ppg in their final six games. They may lack motivation, but the team can win the Bowl after two years.
